My photo exhibition

I don’t have a very specific form of photography, I mostly take and create whatever comes to my mind, regardless of style. If I had the choice it would be figure photography (with figurines and other such things) and generally images based on my hobbies. An example of this would be the picture of my old crt TV playing Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube, showing my favorite hobby one of my favorite games. There are the generally offbeat photos such as the picture within a picture, I always like to go for something strange and intriguing for my shots. The best photo I created this year was the composite of the phone pouring water into the bowl. It was the most advanced photo I have created, requiring many layers, and is without a doubt my best and favorite photo.

Photo for someone

This is a photo I took earlier in the year for a family photo of me my Mom and Dad on my dads birthday.

1560500_987940814570144_1966426163604542844_nI really had to jury rig the photo, since I was using a new camera, was with a very limited space, and also only had a broken tripod made for a telescope originally. I had to lower the exposure to defuse the light coming from the window. I also wanted the shutter speed as high as possible to decrease the risk of blur from my pets being in the shot, since they cant stay still. Over all for a family photo, it turned out very well.

New composite

I have created yet another composite. Yes I did say I hated composites but whatever I put my friend in a Lego seatcomposite-1 I created it from simply a picture of my friend and a picture of the Lego seat. I had to create a few different layers to make him fit. I copied to layer the white part of the seat and the control panel, and stuck him in there. Then I simply erased around him very thoroughly to make it look clean. It isn’t the greatest work, but it was fun to make and I think came with a nice result in the end.

What am I going to do next?

Well I have started brainstorming ideas for my next project, I think I want to do something ice related, in the spirit of the season. My main idea is that I am going to take a figure of some sort, which I am not on short supply, and freeze it. I will most likely take a square plastic container, fill it with water and the figure, and freeze it. Next I have to decide what to add to the photo. Whether I want other figures around it, discovering something trapped in ice, or just simplify it and just focus on the frozen figure. Luckily I have an ample supply of snow and outdoors, plus time off, so I can really make this photo shine.

I did it woooooooooooooo

So after working on my composite for the last week, I have finally come to quite a satisfying result

It took a bit of work, but over all it has exceeded expectations for the over all look, especially after never really attempting a project of this complexity, but in the end it exceeded expectations. After completion, I must say, I really hate doing composites

Stuff I am doing

I have been plagued by inhibition lately so I haven’t been taking many shots. Sometimes it is really hard to find inspiration for doing photography and art in general, but now I have some fresh ideas in my head, and hopefully they will all work out. What I am currently attempting is to make my own spin on the pouring water shot, by making into a composite. I wish to create a photo that looks like my phone is pouring water into a bowl, instead of the jug that I used as a base. It is going to require many layers, and I may have to retake the shots several times in order to achieve the effect, but I have confidence in it. After that, I hope to look at making more figure photography, utilizing a studio that I have access to at the moment, hopefully doing more action shots, which are my personal favorite. Over all I am hoping to really step up my game in the next few weeks, and make some interesting shots.

About me

My name is Hunter Martin an amateur photographer aspiring to get good. I am going to be writing a series of blogs against my will because I want to make a log my progress over the next few months to see how far I have come in photography. My style of photography is not very well developed yet, as I like to experiment with many different styles, my favorite type is figure photography a sub category of still life were the main focus is essentially action figures. Here are a few photos that reflect my style well in my opinion
